On March 31, 2010, HPRAC completed A Report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on Interprofessional Collaboration Among Eye Care Health Professions. Its recommendations call for changes to regulations under the Opticianry Act, 2001 and the Optometry Act, 2001 and for action by the Minister outside of legislation or regulation to promote collaboration among the eye health colleges and professions through an Eye Health Council.

HPRAC submitted Critical Links: Transforming and Supporting Patient Care (January 2009), to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and the Minister made the report public on February 2, 2009. Building on HPRAC's previous advice to the Minister over the last two years, this report focuses on interprofessional collaboration, and the prescribing and use of drugs by non-physician regulated health professions and scope of practice reviews for the professions of medical laboratory technology and medical radiation technology.

To understand various perspectives on this issue including those of health care practitioners and professionals, facilities and institutions, clients and patients, advocates and regulators, HPRAC has developed a Discussion Guide that poses a number of questions concerning interprofessional collaboration. Responses to this Guide will assist us in framing further consultations and research activity and responding to the Minister. Responses to the report are due May 31, 2008.
