Collaboration Physiotherapy Scope

Physiotherapy Scope of Practice Review

HPRAC has submitted a report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on the review of the scope of practice of physiotherapy as part of its report to the Minister on Mechanisms to Facilitate and Support Interprofessional Collaboration among Health Colleges and Regulated Health Professionals: Phase II, Part I. 

In preparing this advice, HPRAC took the following steps:

Joint Submission on Physiotherapy

The profession of physiotherapy was invited to submit recommendations for changes in scope of practice to enhance interprofessional collaboration and assist members to work to the maximum of their scope of practice. A joint submission was made by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and the Ontario Physiotherapy Association.

Literature and Jurisdictional Reviews: Physiotherapy

To facilitate discussion regarding the scope of practice review for the profession of physiotherapy, HPRAC developed the following documents:

Consultation Meetings

Consultation meetings were held in Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Hamilton, Windsor , Sudbury and Toronto, and key stakeholder meetings were held  throughout  the process. Individuals and organizations from the profession of physiotherapy, other professions, providers, educators, hospitals, long-term care homes, Community Care Access Centres, LHINs and others participated in these consultations.

Responses to Joint Submission on Physiotherapy

Individuals and organizations have responded to the submission made by the Ontario Physiotherapy Leadership Consortium (OPLC) concerning the scope of practice of physiotherapy. Responses received by HPRAC are posted on the HPRAC website; however, HPRAC reserves the right to delete personal information to meet its obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O 1990, Chapter F.31.

The responses to the OPLC submission are intended to provide comment and analysis of the proposals made by the OPLC, and to present information that will assist in the review, and in the consideration of advice that HPRAC provides to the Minister. Responses are available in the language in which they are received, and have not been translated from English to French or French to English.
