Current Ministerial Referrals

Referral on Chiropody and Podiatry

The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care has requested that HPRAC "review issues relating to the regulation of chiropody and podiatry and provide advice as to whether and how there should be changes to existing legislation regarding these related professions". Council was asked to include "an analysis of the current model of foot care in Ontario, issues regarding restricted titles, and whether the existing limitations on the podiatrist class of members should continue."

In spring 2014, HPRAC held a public consultation session on the model of foot care in Ontario. Subsequently, HPRAC invited the College of Chiropodists of Ontario (the Applicant) to complete an application for a scope of practice review and respond to additional questions relating to the regulation of chiropody and podiatry in Ontario. The Applicant's submission is now available for review.

HPRAC is currently seeking input from those who are interested in this issue, and their input will inform the development of our recommendations to the Minister. The deadline for feedback is March 20, 2015.  To find out how to participate, please click here.

Referral on the Regulation of Diagnostic Sonographers under the RHPA

On June 27, 2014, HPRAC delivered to the Minister its report on whether the diagnostic sonography profession ought to be regulated under the RHPA. HPRAC's work on this referral is now complete.

Referral on the Regulation of Paramedics under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA)

On Dec. 20, 2013, HPRAC concluded its work on this referral by delivering its report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Hon. Deb. Matthews: Paramedicine in Ontario: Consideration of the Application for the Regulation of Paramedics under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991. HPRAC's reports are confidential until released by the Minister.

On March 7, 2014, the Minister publicly released the report.
